  • Thank you for another fantastic summer of camps!

Thank you for another fantastic summer of camps!

As the sails come down and the docks quiet after another busy season, Whistler Sailing Association is reflecting on an incredible summer of youth camps on Alta Lake.

All summer long, kids aged 5–13 joined us to learn the basics of sailing in a safe, fun, and supportive environment. Guided by our dedicated instructors, campers discovered everything from rigging and water safety to the thrill of catching their first gust of wind across the lake.

Since 2008, WSA’s mission has been to provide affordable learn-to-sail opportunities for local kids and youth. This summer, that mission came to life once again through laughter, teamwork, and the confidence that grows when young sailors take the helm for the first time.

A huge thank you to every family who joined us this summer. Your support helps keep sailing accessible in our community and ensures that the next generation can experience the joy of wind, water, and Whistler’s unique mountain-lake setting.

While our camps have wrapped for the season, the adventure doesn’t stop here – fall programs and adult courses are just around the corner.

Until next summer, we’ll see you on the water!

    ⚓🏴‍☠️ Pirate Club Championships – what a night! 🏴‍☠️⚓

Last night, the fleet of Pirates battled it out on Alta Lake for our annual Pirate Club Championships. Mother Nature turned it on, serving up a sporty 18–22 knots that kept everyone on their toes!

The course was a windward–leeward–triangle, and the tight racing made for fast upwind legs and screaming reaches – a night to remember!

Congratulations to James Cannon and Triana Cornejo – your 2025 WSA Club Champions!

A huge thank you to all the sailors who came out – you turned the championships into a true showcase of wind, water, and Whistler spirit!

    14th Annual Whistler Regatta Recap

This past weekend, Whistler Sailing hosted the 14th Annual Whistler Regatta, welcoming sailors from across BC to Alta Lake. Competitors came ready for a weekend of fun, challenge, and community on the water.

The heat of the weekend delivered north winds, giving us light racing conditions. Depending on the fleet, sailors completed 7 to 8 races. Unfortunately, the wind did not cooperate for the Wing Slalom event.

We’d like to extend a big thank you to all of the clubs who joined us – it was wonderful to connect with both old friends and new faces in our sailing community. A special shoutout goes to our Race Officer, Rob Woodbury, for joining us once again and ensuring smooth racing on the water. A heartfelt thank you as well to our sponsors, Nesters Market for keeping our team fuelled, and Rekord Marine for supporting this event.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the incredible volunteers who powered the regatta behind the scenes from race committee to shore support. Your hard work made this event a success!

Double the Wind, Double the Fun: Wing Foil Slalom & Annual Whistler Regatta This Weekend

Whistler Sailing is bringing the wind to life this weekend on Alta Lake with not one, but two thrilling events that celebrate the best of sailing and wing foiling.

Wing Foil Slalom – Saturday, August 23 (Evening)

Kicking things off, the Wing Foil Slalom returns with fast-paced action and a unique downwind zig-zag course. Riders will start around 5:00–5:30pm, weather permitting, and carve their way across the lake in a test of speed, agility, and style.

    Annual Whistler Regatta – August 23 & 24

All weekend long, Alta Lake will also be alive with the energy of the Annual Whistler Regatta. This tradition brings together racers, volunteers, and community supporters for two full days of competitive sailing and lakeside camaraderie. Racing fleets this year include: ILCA 7, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, Optimist (White/Blue/Red), 420s, RS Feva, X-Class, and Pirates. Whether you’re in the skipper’s seat, volunteering on shore, or cheering from the beach, there’s a way for everyone to be part of the action.

A Community Celebration on the Water

The Wing Foil Slalom and Whistler Regatta highlight what makes summer in Whistler special: wind, water, and community. From foilers zig-zagging down the course to sailors lining up for their starting signals, the weekend promises high energy and plenty of reasons to gather by the lake.

We invite everyone—racers, volunteers, and spectators alike—to join us in celebrating the wind this weekend!

    Looking for a Getaway?

Set sail with our newest addition: The Hobie Getaway!

We’re thrilled to announce a new member of the Whistler Sailing fleet: the Hobie Getaway — a sleek, stable, and seriously fun catamaran designed for unforgettable days on the water.

Thanks to a generous donation, this boat has already made a splash this summer, seeing plenty of action with our youth camps. And now, it’s available for charter to the wider community!

The Getaway lives up to its name:

    • Roomy enough for friends and family
    • Built for performance with symmetrically shaped hulls and a mainsail-driven sailplan
    • Features a roller-furling jib for easy handling

This isn’t your average boat — it’s a multihull rocket with just the right mix of speed, stability, and simplicity. Whether you’re looking to relax on Alta Lake or introduce someone to the magic of sailing, the Getaway is your ticket to adventure.

  • Wing Slalom kickoff on Alta Lake

Wing Slalom kickoff on Alta Lake

July 5th marked a new chapter on Alta Lake as we hosted the very first Wing Slalom event—and what a way to kick things off! With 14 stoked participants registered, there was a great buzz around the lake from start to finish.

Despite light and shifty winds from the southwest, we managed to get three races on the board. Racers zig-zagged through the course with focus and flow, navigating gusts and lulls with style. The conditions may have been tricky, but spirits were high, and the stoke was even higher.

Dillon dominated the day, taking the lead with a solid win on each lap. Watching him carve through the course with precision and confidence was truly something special. Francois and Fred battled hard for second, with Fred securing it in the final race.

One of the biggest highlights? Phil, just 14 years old, secured 4th place. A homegrown WSA sailor, Phil started his foiling journey about a month ago. Watching him hold his own among seasoned riders was nothing short of amazing. As he heads to Portugal with his family, we will be watching to see where his foiling and sailing journey takes him next!

A huge shoutout to everyone who came out to ride, cheer, and help make it happen. Whether you were racing, spectating, or supporting behind the scenes—thank you! Also, special thanks to Independent Grocer for supporting this event.

More to come! Based on the buzz, we’re already talking about a next one. Stay tuned for updates!

  • Waves Regatta Recap 2025

    Waves Regatta Recap 2025

The WSA Race Team had an exciting and competitive weekend at the Waves Regatta hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on June 21–22. Over two days, sailors faced light to moderate southeasterly breezes, which brought plenty of shifts and kept the racing tight and full of tactical opportunities. Aiden Heeney, representing both Whistler Sailing and West Vancouver Yacht Club, sailed an impressive regatta and secured 2nd place in the ILCA 4 fleet. Gwendolyn Spires and  Katelyn Yanushpolsky also sailed well in the ILCA 4 fleet, finishing 10th and 11th respectively.

In the ILCA 6 division, the team battled through challenging conditions, with Phil Hargreaves finishing 18th, followed closely by Levi Rothdram in 20th, Elliot Clark in 22nd, and Tim Blewett in 26th. The regatta provided valuable racing experience in tricky conditions, and the WSA sailors showed grit and determination throughout the event. The team extends their gratitude to RVYC for hosting the event and lending WSA a trailer to help with the transportation of boats, to and from the regatta. The team would also like to thank all the parents, coaches, and club members, whose continued support, ensures that racing opportunities like these remain available for WSA sailors.
