Sailing
Help make sailing happen on Alta Lake.
Whistler Sailing is powered by community. As a nonprofit sailing association, our programs, events, and on-water experiences rely on the time, energy, and passion of volunteers.
Whether you are an experienced sailor, a returning member, a parent, or someone who simply wants to support local sport and recreation, there are many ways to get involved.
Volunteering with Whistler Sailing is a great way to give back, meet people, build skills, and help grow sailing in the Sea to Sky.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
Why volunteer?
Volunteers help keep our club running, welcoming, and accessible. By getting involved, you can:
- Support kids, youth, and adult sailing programs
- Help create a strong community on and off the water
- Share your sailing knowledge and experience
- Build leadership and teamwork skills
- Contribute to events, maintenance, and club operations
Member volunteer commitment
Whistler Sailing members are asked to contribute a minimum of 8 volunteer hours throughout the season to support club operations, maintenance, and events. This shared effort helps us keep costs down and strengthens our community.
Annual Volunteer Opportunities
Boat Launch & Haul Out
Support one of the most important days of the season. Boat launch in the spring and haul out in the fall are key moments that get our fleet on the water and safely stored for winter.
Volunteers help with rigging, moving boats, organizing equipment, and coordinating on-land and dockside activity. It’s a hands-on opportunity to learn more about the boats, how everything works, and how the club operates behind the scenes.
No advanced experience is required, but a willingness to lift, follow direction, and work as part of a team is essential.
Event support
Assist with program setup, race committee support, regatta logistics, and general waterfront help.
Club and boat maintenance
Support seasonal setup, repairs, rigging, storage organization, and keeping equipment in good working order.
Youth program support
Experienced sailors aged 13+ may be able to support instructors and coaches during camps or youth programming.
General support
Help with photography, outreach, and behind-the-scenes organization.
Youth volunteer opportunities
We welcome youth volunteers who are:
- Age 13 or older
- Experienced sailors with CANSail 3 or higher
- Comfortable working with younger sailors
- Reliable, positive, and ready to help
Youth volunteers can assist with camps and junior programming while gaining valuable experience in leadership, teamwork, and responsibility.
Think you are a fit? Reach out!
Ready to get involved?
We’d love to hear from you. Whether you can help on the water, at events, or behind the scenes, volunteering is a great way to be part of the Whistler Sailing community.
