Waves Regatta Recap 2025

The WSA Race Team had an exciting and competitive weekend at the Waves Regatta hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on June 21–22. Over two days, sailors faced light to moderate southeasterly breezes, which brought plenty of shifts and kept the racing tight and full of tactical opportunities. Aiden Heeney, representing both Whistler Sailing and West Vancouver Yacht Club, sailed an impressive regatta and secured 2nd place in the ILCA 4 fleet. Gwendolyn Spires and  Katelyn Yanushpolsky also sailed well in the ILCA 4 fleet, finishing 10th and 11th respectively.

In the ILCA 6 division, the team battled through challenging conditions, with Phil Hargreaves finishing 18th, followed closely by Levi Rothdram in 20th, Elliot Clark in 22nd, and Tim Blewett in 26th. The regatta provided valuable racing experience in tricky conditions, and the WSA sailors showed grit and determination throughout the event. The team extends their gratitude to RVYC for hosting the event and lending WSA a trailer to help with the transportation of boats, to and from the regatta. The team would also like to thank all the parents, coaches, and club members, whose continued support, ensures that racing opportunities like these remain available for WSA sailors.
